The Value of Your Worth
Starting from zero doesn’t mean your value is nothing
In today’s world it’s easy to affix quantities or numbers to everything. From how many likes a post gets to how many followers someone has to how many millions an Instagram guru can help you earn with their online courses; people are throwing numbers around as a means to define value. And truthfully, this needs to stop!
I hear it all the time from some of my clients. Whether it’s a new business owner or a large corporation who’s new to social media, the obsession with numbers is real however inaccurate in most cases. Don’t get me wrong, of course, there’s a place for numbers and analytics but as a marketer and public relations professional I can assure you that they don’t provide you with full context or tell you the entire story. The truth is often buried somewhere in between those Ps and Cs we learn about.
That’s why your value should never be fixed or defined by any one number. Let’s say you have 10,000 followers on Instagram but are only reaching 1,000, your value is the same or even less than if you have 2,000 followers and can connect with half which is higher. That’s the thing about numbers, they can be manipulated to serve a superficial narrative that may not be serving you.
More numbers don’t necessarily mean more value.
And just because you hit a certain number doesn’t mean your value should change either. You define and determine your own worth. And remember that in business, value prop is not able value itself rather how your value is serving others. What problems are you solving? Why is your product or service beneficial?
According to the actual definitions, “zero” is no quantity or number and nothing means something that does not exist.
I once read that there are 10 000 possible 4-digit combinations from 0-9 so clearly there is no one path or right way to get where you’re going, unlock your magic, or make an impact with your reach or within your community.
Always remember your worth and never forget that starting from zero doesn’t mean your value is nothing!
